(The Guardian) Trump revokes temporary protected status for more than 300,000 Venezuelans – report
The Trump administration has revoked temporary protected status (TPS) for more than 300,000 Venezuelans in the US, the New York Times reports.

The federal TPS program allows for people to temporarily stay in the US if they cannot return safely to their home country. It is available for people fleeing ongoing armed conflict, environmental disasters, or extraordinary and temporary conditions.

Government documents obtained by the outlet read: After reviewing country conditions and considering whether permitting Venezuelan nationals covered by the 2023 designation is contrary to the national interest of the United States, in consultation with the appropriate U.S. government agencies, the secretary of homeland security has determined that Venezuela no longer continues to meet the conditions for the 2023 designation.

The termination means that those under TPS from Venezuela who received the protections in 2023 will lose their temporary status 60 days after the government publishes the termination notice, according to the Times. It also increases the number of people without any formal immigration status in the US.

That is almost correct; he was the same president considered the problem of illegal migrants during his first win in the presidential election before Biden.

I have to disagree there; one of the problems with a lot of the laws/regs regarding migration and refugee status is that they've been abused by the powers-that-be in Washington to the point of disaster. The system seriously needs reform and until Congress acts, this is one solution. Lest' we forget, TPS is not supposed to be a permanent solution for refugees fleeing their home countries; it is to be a temporary thing so that they have a safe place to live.

I, like most Americans, have zero problem helping others. What I do have a problem with is when migrants/refugees abuse their temporary status to stay longer from the emergency that caused them to come here.

And no, Davis, most Americans like Pres. Trump do not want "only Americans" to be in the U.S. - America has been one of, if not the most welcoming, least racist country ever created and Americans welcome those who come to here to our shores so long as they by the rules and come in the front door. (i.e. follow the legal paths to entry into the U.S.). Otherwise, with the exception of Dreamers (those brought into the country at a young age w/out knowing they were brought here w/out authorization) I have zero sympathy for those immigrants et. al. who break the law to get in and then expect the rest of America to let them stay.

Don't mean to sound cruel there; I'm just being blunt and honest there, Davis.
