I don't know how this works. But I had to drive our company car to the auto mechanic workshop of the guy that fixes all the cars of the organization. And I didn't meet him there. And the service he needed to fix on the car was very urgent. I called him and he said he went to fix a car for someone outside.

My question is, "How can service providers manage external jobs and having to be in the shop to attend to new jobs coming in"?

The only way to do this is to have extra hands. This way he can send his staffs to handle the external jobs or he handles it while the staffs remain at the office.

This is just the simple way for this challenge to be solved. But the challenge is that most business people don't want to have extra hands, even when the order before them is overwhelming.

That's true though and I don't blame some of them. These days it's becoming really hard to find capable and loyal hands to work for you, especially if it's a hand skill job. The moment they learn to a particular level, they want to startup their own business.

One thing we fail to do in business is establish partnerships. If you know that you have many outside orders, look for a partner, not a worker that would handle shop orders and you guys share profits.
This is a good idea . you would need to go ahead with it a good partner so that you share the profit as you should

A lot of times outside jobs even pays a lot better than jobs in the shops . So sure bet have an assistant to make the job more easy
They get to charge more for the home service jobs. That's alright. But they should also not neglect their shop because that is their base.

That's why they need assistant. They can't be in the two places at the same time. The wise thing would be to get an assistant to stay in the job or take up the outside jobs
