Love is blind. That much is clear, yet people tend to take it a step further. Romance in today’s age is thought to be the “ultimate end goal” in one’s life which deviates most from priorities. This speech aims to give perspective on how romance demands emotional independence and responsibility which go hand in hand in building a healthy relationship.
Firstly, young adults today tend to chase after their ideas of love as a means of finding their other ‘half’. In truth, you should already feel complete and not have to force your own expectations of romance onto someone unready to take hold of the responsibility. Yes, everyone deserves love, but only prepared and complete people should love. It is much more realistic to face one’s struggles and personal issues first before love is taken on as another equally important responsibility later on.
Second, incompleteness creates an unhealthy dynamic within any relationship, chasing after love from someone unready may compromise both your needs and theirs which will lead to resentment and emotional strain in the future that only worsens the damage and trauma both individuals currently face. Lastly, things that are forced to happen don’t work out most of the time. The endless chase for immature love is a losing battle. All in all, it is important to know that when the time is right, love will come to you, and when it does you should see to it that you’re prepared to reciprocate that level of commitment.
