Buy one get one free is one of the popular strategies to improve sales, but how do they do it. Well, simple answer is reducing product quality, quantity, or weight to lower production costs, or raising the price to compensate for the "free" item. When you see businesses offering two items for the price of one, they are likely applying one of these tactics. This approach is often used for clearing out inventory while maintaining profitability.

Someone once told me that majority of the times you are actually still paying for the second item, but they will make it look like you paid for one and got the other free.

I feel that these schemes are offered mainly to get rid of slow-moving inventory, businesses often find it difficult to accurately predict the demand for the various products.

True, like some years back i was discussing with a lecturer, the school had a scholarship program, after he explained everything for me, at the end of the day those in scholarship are paying the same thing as regular students and in some cases even more than regular students, but the way they set it, you would think you are paying less.
