Can social media create real friendships?

I think social media can help people form genuine friendships. Some people have even discovered their "true love" online. However, it's crucial to stay cautious because not everyone is honest about who they really are. Have you ever made any real friends through the internet?

No of course. Though we accepted known or met only on social media for having the same family name, but the fact remains that they are virtual. I accepted friendship and nothing more.

It is essential to be cautious about accepting people we do not know personally. They can pretend to be someone they are not.

I don't trust any virtual media for creating a genuine friendship unless I know and meet the person in physical and spend some time with them. I am very good with social networking and making acquaintances and connections. But very cautious and slow at making genuine friends. I am a bit surprised when people talk about their best friends being from online world or meeting their soulmates online. I am happy for them but not able to personally relate to it.

Everything has it's risk, i believe social media can help us form real friendships that would last. There are some persons who are extremely close to me right now. I got to know them through social media. Though one needs to be careful who they associate with.
