Cold wallets or hardware wallets have become a primary need for security, especially for crypto holders above $1000, and until now cold wallets are considered the safest place to store large amounts of crypto. As Coinbase suggested when my crypto balance first reached above $1k, they advised me to immediately move the balance to a cold wallet, as a safer place from hacking.
