Managing Finance as a Single Parent

I am not a single parent. But I was brought up by my mom, who was a single parent to two kids. And she did a fabulous job. As far as the financial planning goes, it would be same as a family with one earning member. There are many couples where one choses to be stay at home and take care of the family. Being a single parent comes with more responsibilities as you have to alone take care of everything. Being the sole bread earner, you need to be more meticulous with your planning.

I often meet single parents where they have to multitask from making money, taking care of children, and managing finances. So the most important thing is that they must have a good short-term and long-term plan, prioritize spending, allocate emergency funds, invest, save, insurance, create a side hustle. And the most important thing to apply to how to manage finances is to live frugally and avoid debt.

It is not easy to run a home as a single parent. The financial pressure can be nauseating. Only people that have a good job find it easy.

@arunima25, For a sole bread earner, meticulous planning is a must. Otherwise, he/she cannot run the family properly.
Yes, it needs meticulous planning and a very robust financial discipline. There is no second earnings to fall on in the case of crisis. Also, being a single parent, one has to plan the time and social life too around the financial needs and the needs of the children.

Being a single parent is never easy for both the man or woman. To achieve this, it requires proper planing, making investments to ensure you have more than one source of income.

Yes just like for any other person you need to keep planning as a single parent to make financial journey less cumbersome
It gets tougher for single parents with baby daddies that are irresponsible. They don't have anyone to split child care bills with.

Single parents abroad like in New Zealand receive a financial support handsomely but only up to the 2nd child the next the NZ government won't anymore shoulder. In my country there is no government support for a single parent only from the immediate family and some relatives who understand the financial struggle of the concern family member.

Being a single parent you may face a lot of challenges and and if you are unable to earn much then it will be even tough so you really need to spend carefully and look for government schemes to get the required help
That's right it is always a tough one for single parents it is never easy so they need to not only make money but learn how to plan it

The financial burden and responsibilities of single parents are being slowly recognised in our society. I have seen educational institutes like good schools and colleges coming up with some percentage of fees waived for the ward if they have single parent. This is one initiative that is very welcomed here.

It's hard because even couples that are unable to earn much face financial issues but being a single mother or parent will be even harder as you not only needs to earn but also needs to take care of kid/s.
