have you ever tried creating a social media site? Well, I once created a social networking site on wordpress. I shut down the site when I could not build user base. I even bought facebook clone script to create a social site but never got started with it.

I have not done it before. I did try to create a forum earlier, but I could not devote enough time to it due to my hectic schedule.

If you will start such site, you must offer something new or some fee for users. Almost everything is currently present in existing social media platforms and users don't have reason go somewhere else.
