Ramadan will begin on March 2nd, according to a Friday announcement from the Bangsamoro Mufti. A statement from Sheikh Abdulrauf Guialani, the Bangsamoro Grand Mufti and Executive Director of the Bangsamoro Darul-Ifta’, declared the absence of a crescent moon sighting today. “Therefore, Ramadhan Fasting 2025 will officially commence on Sunday, March 2, 2025, In Shaa Allah,” he also said. Islamic tradition dictates that a lunar month lasts 30 days if the new moon remains unseen. Islamic calendars follow the lunar cycle; the new month begins with the sighting of the crescent moon (hilal), and if the crescent isn't seen, the current month extends.
