I have been hearing about whales in the crypto market and how their activities in the market influences the direction of the market. But I want to know what defines a person or an entity to be a whale in the crypto market? Which entity is a possible whale in the crypto market?

The term "whale" comes from the stock market and is adopted in the crypto world. The word whale is often interpreted as a crypto holder who has a value of at least 1000 Bitcoins, whether an individual or an institution.
Anyone that has this particular worth of bitcoin should be able to influence the market how they want. They are truly whales in the real sense.

Not all whales are active in the crypto market, there are also many whales that are passive or inactive such as Satoshi Nakamoto, Changpeng Zhao etc. Investors and traders in various ways always monitor the movements of whales before entering the crypto market.

A person or entity that has a lot of wealth in a cryptocurrency, which is able to move the market a little thanks to its large holdings.
